Snapchat Lenses Now Officially Work On Dogs
Let's not kid ourselves, you've tried to use Snapchat's lenses on your dog before. Even if you've managed to make it work, Snapchat hasn't technically dog-friendly at the time. After adding lenses for cats last month, Snapchat announced that its camera will recognize dog faces just like it does humans. That means you can spend the holidays snapping better pictures of your family's pooch with animated pizza or reindeer antlers on its head.uwaterloo.ca The initial launch will have a handful of pup-friendly lenses and Snapchat promises more will be on the way in the near future. The dog lenses are just the latest extension of the company's improving object recognition. Last year Snapchat introduced filters that could identify food, sports equipment and pets and provide custom overlays based on what was in the frame.
You can press the stack icon that appears under the other creative tools to apply multiple filters to your Snap. Once your Snap is ready to go, click the blue Send To arrow icon on the bottom right of the screen. Then, select which contacts you’d like to send the Snap to by checking the boxes beside their names. Once your Snap is sent, the app will take you to the Friends screen. To send multiple Snaps, repeat the process above. Your friend will receive your Snaps in the order you sent them. A Snapchat lens is an effect applied directly to the faces in the Snap.
Unlike the creative tools and filters, which you apply after taking the Snap, you apply Snapchat lenses before you tap the capture button. 1. Point the camera at your face (with the selfie camera) or a friend’s face (with the front-facing camera). You can include multiple people in your Snap if you choose. 2. Tap on one of the faces on the screen. Lenses will pop up at the bottom. 3. Scroll through the available lenses to preview the effects. 4. Some lenses have prompts like "open your mouth" or "raise your eyebrows." Once you follow the prompt, your Snap will take on a totally new form.
5. Once you find a lens you like, tap the capture button to take a picture or hold down the capture button to take a video. A Snapchat Story is a collection of Snaps captured within the past 24 hours. By default, your Story is visible to all of your friends, and they can view the Snaps in your story as many times as they would like. You can limit who sees your Story by changing your privacy settings. Follow the instructions above to create a Snap, then tap the Story button at the bottom left of your screen. Tap Add, and the Snap will become part of your Story.
From the camera screen, tap the ghost icon. Then tap My Story. Tap any Snap to view it, and tap the garbage can icon at the bottom right to delete. Remember, your Story is a rolling archive of the past 24 hours. If you’d like to save a Story longer than that, you can save it. From the camera screen, tap the ghost icon. Tap the download button beside My Story to save your current Story to Memories or your camera roll. Tap the eye button on any Snap within a Story to see who’s viewed it. Pro tip: You can only find out how many people viewed your Story while it’s live.
From the camera screen, tap on the triangle Stories icon in the bottom right corner. You’ll see a list of friends who have updated their stories. To view the story, tap on your friend’s username. You can create a shared Story with your friends. Group stories can contain up to 1,000 snaps, and they last as long as someone adds a Snap every 24 hours. 1. Choose to create a Group Story (for you and select friends), a Geo Story (for people within a geofenced location), or a Private Story (only available to selected friends).
Our Story is a collection of Snaps from various Snapchatters and may appear in Discover, search, or through the Snap Map. Adding your Snaps to Our Story means they may be visible to people you are not connected with on Snapchat. To add your Snap to Our Story, create your Snap as usual, then choose Our Story on the screen where you select which friends to send the Snap to. Snapchat Memories allows you to save Snaps and Stories so you can view them later, or even repost them. You can save any Snap to Memories by tapping the save button. You can also choose to save all Snaps to Memories by default. To view your Memories, open the Snapchat app and swipe up or tap the small circle below the capture button.

The feature allows you to connect with friends one-on-one, or have a group chat with several people. For individual chats, messages are automatically deleted once you both leave the chat. Group chat messages are deleted after 24 hours. Snapchat Filters are a kind of overlay which you can add to the Snap you’ve just shot. There are a couple of standard filters which you have around almost all the time, like time, temperature, speed, and more. Keep reading to find out the possibilities. How to add a Filter to a Snap? STEP 1: The first step in discovering how to add a Filter to Snap is that you would have to take a Snap to discover this feature.
STEP 2: After you have taken a photo or recorded a video, you can easily swipe left or right and the Filters appear. When you swipe to the left, some really basic Filters appear. They are a couple of layers which you can lay over your Snap in order to let your Snap get a specific look. Do you want your photo with a black and white Filter? No problem, just scroll through the Filters available. DISCOVER 1: When you continue swiping to the left, you will find some digits on your screen. The first one you come across is the speedometer.
This specific Filter shows you what your current speed is. Snapchat bases this on your location, so make sure your location is turned on and that you have allowed Snapchat to use your location. The speedometer Filter shows you current speed and if you tap on the digits, the Filter changes from mph/h to km/h and backwards. DISCOVER 2: Once you have swiped to the left for another time, you can find another couple of digits. Those numbers indicate the current temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Another swipe to the left lets you see the time. Just like the other explained Filters, the time is visible in the middle of the screen. If you tap on it, the time changes to the date (twice).
DISCOVER 3: After that, Snapchat also knows something about your battery life. When for example your battery is very low, Snapchat gives you a way to share this with the filter from the example. This is also the case when your battery is (almost) fully charged. For video Snaps, Snapchat offers some additional Filters. Next to the ones described already, Snapchat offers some Filters which are made for videos. DISCOVER 4: First of all, when you swipe to the left for another time, you see a snail appearing and disappearing. This indicates that the video will be played in slow-motion.
If you swipe to the left for another time, a rabbit or hare appears and disappears. This means that the video will be played faster than the original. The next Filter shows some disappearing arrows, which indicate that the video will be played in reverse. After that, you can find the Geofilters, which we will write about later on. You can also reach all the described Filters by swiping to the right. One main difference between swiping to the right versus swiping to the left, is that you can find other Filters when you’re swiping to the right. How to add multiple Filters to a Snap? You don’t have to be ashamed if you didn’t know that you are able to add multiple Filters to one Snap. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work in all possible combinations, but it is a nice way to give you Snap that little extra. STEP 1: First of all, add one of the Filters just like we just taught you. After you have picked one (Geo)Filter of your preference, you can add another one, if you like. If you want to add another one, you have to hold your finger on the screen. While you’re holding your finger on the screen, you can use another finger (for example of your other hand) to swipe through the (Geo)Filters again! In this way you can add a second Filter to your Snap!
Snap will launch a gaming platform for its social media app next month, according to Cheddar. The service (codenamed "Project Cognac") has been rumored for awhile, and will reportedly feature externally developed games that will work inside the Snapchat app. It sounds much like the gaming tab just unveiled by Facebook, which features Instant Games, eSports streaming, and more. Google is also about to make a big gaming announcement at GDC next month, possibly to launch its own platform. Snap has been struggling to increase user growth, but recently announced that it had boosted revenue last quarter by 36 percent. Jumping into gaming could be a way to bump both users and revenue. Snap investor Tencent, the world's largest gaming company, indicated last year that it may collaborate with with the social media company on games. Tencent's mobile gaming revenue has dropped lately due to tighter regulations in China, so working with Snap in other regions might make sense. Snap recently acquired an Australian gaming company called Prettygreat and web-based game engine startup PlayCanvas. Apparently, Snap will unveil original shows and other content at its first developer conference in Los Angeles on April 4th, but the main reveal will be around gaming.
Snapchat's Lens Studio, which lets anyone create their own augmented reality filters, has been a big hit for the company. There are now more than 300,000 Lenses created by independent users, and those have been viewed over 35 billion times. Still, Snapchat wants Lens Studio to get even bigger, and what better way to help it do that than by teaming up with one of the biggest brands in the world: Nike. At NBA All-Star Weekend 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nike and Snapchat built a do-it-yourself studio for people to create AR Lenses on the fly. Inside the Snapchat Workshop, which is located at Nike's Owners HQ pop-up in Charlotte, people can come in choose between four different templates from a custom version of Lens Studio: Sunglasses, Segmentation, Hat and Headband.
Once you select one of these, the software populates virtual assets from Nike and Jordan Brand, like an inspirational quote from LeBron James that you put on your AR filter. If you're not a fan of LeBron, you can put the name of Wesbrook's signature shoe line ("Why not?") on your augmented reality glasses, or just pick a Nike headband with confetti. Depending on how creative you want to get with your NBA- and Nike-themed AR Lenses, the process could take as little as a couple of minutes. After you've made your filter, you just have to pair your Snapchat profile to the Lens Studio session, using a Snap code, and then publish it to your account. You can then start sharing it with your friends and the Snapchat community, who may want to use it if they're like the way it looks.
The thing that makes Lens Studio stand out is that you don't have to know how to code to use it, since Snapchat designed it with both beginners and programmers in mind. And if you do run into any issues at Nike's Snapchat Workshop, there are Lens experts readily available to guide you through the process. For Snapchat, this is just the latest example of how it views Lens Studio as a key part of its overall business strategy. Just a few months ago, the company brought AR filters to the desktop with the new Snap Camera, which lets people use filters from Lens Studio (as well as Snapchat's own) on video-chat apps like Skype and Google Hangouts. Shawn Dedeluk, Creative Strategy Lead at Snapchat, told Engadget that the partnership with Nike is about bringing more awareness to Lens Studio and educating consumers on what the app is capable of.
While this experience is less about the users and more about marketing, it may still be a good step to let people get more familiar with augmented reality. It'll be interesting to see if, down the road, Snap starts doing more of these augmented reality workshops -- especially as it looks to keep users on its service. If more people know it's easy to create a personal augmented reality filter for their selfies, that may just keep them coming back. Dedeluk said Snap will "probably" end up building similar pop-ups in the future, noting that what the company is doing with Nike and Jordan at NBA All-Star Weekend paves the way for what could be done with other brands. As for Nike, the sportswear giant has been experimenting with AR to sell sneakers for a couple of years, so its interest in the technology shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, Nike always finds a way to try to generate hype at big sporting events, whether that be the Super Bowl or the NBA's star-studded mid-season game.
Much like everything about Snapchat, you need to have a photo to work with. Take a photo with your phone with the app installed and them swipe left or right once you’re satisfied with the image. Swiping will cause the app to cycle through the different filters that are available to you. Note that the featured filters will vary depending on whether you’re using an image or a video. These are the kind of filter that cover different locations and cities, with most urban cities having their own unique geofilter. This selection grows as many other users submit their own filters from different places.
These geofilters become even more diverse with special occasions such as sporting events or music festivals and concerts. Because of how geofilters work, the options you can choose from are always different, so don’t forget to check back every now and then. The Snapchat filters also vary between Android and iOS users, so you might notice that there are some filters you have but your friends can’t access and vice versa. This trick is pretty useful when you want to combine certain filters. Snapchat lenses are as much a gem of the app as the filters. In fact, the lenses section is a bit more hidden and is often missed out by those who don’t know about it.
While it is hard to find, the feature can be accessed by holding down on your face when you’re taking a selfie. After pressing down for about 2 seconds, a 3D map of your face will appear. This trick applies to both the Android and iOS versions. Doing so will track your face on the image, allowing you to choose the lenses from the bottom of the screen. At this point, no filters are being used yet, so you’re going to need to scroll right to start previewing the available filters. Much like the geofilters, Snapchat occasionally changes the lenses, even as often as every few days.
Make sure you take the time to go through them whenever you take a selfie. If you find one you like, make the most of it before it disappears. Another interesting feature is the Snapchat Face Swap. As the name of the filter suggests, it allows you to exchange faces with another person on the screen with you. This, of course, leads to a lot hilarious results. This, however, isn’t always available as a filter, so you’re going to want to enjoy it whenever it’s up. You can tell if it’s up when you see a filter that has a logo with two faces and arrow symbols above them.
A service called Bitmoji has a special interaction with Snapchat, giving you a chance to make your own emoji with a simple snap. To get this special filter, you’ll need both the Bitmoji and Snapchat apps on your iOS or Android device. You’ll have to connect both Snapchat and Bitmoji accounts as well. Once done, you can scroll through the lenses until you find your personalized Bitmoji on the list. Hopefully, this short guide will help you get started with making the most of Snapchat filters.
